Setting up and maintaining a Zebra ZD230 printer is crucial for ensuring optimal performance and longevity. 1. Install Software
- Go to Zebra.com/setup.
- Download and install the Printer Setup Utilities.

2. Setup Your Printer
- Refer to the product Setup Guide while setting up.
- Connect power:
- Plug the power cord into an AC power source.
- Connect the power supply to the printer.
- Connect USB:
- Attach a USB cable to the printer.
- Turn on the power.

3. Load Media
- Prepare the media:
- Remove the outer wrap from the media roll to prevent contamination.
- Load the media:
- Place the roll in the holder.
- Push the media under the guides.
- Align the sensor (default position is near the center).

4. Load Ribbon
- Prepare the ribbon:
- Remove the wrapping and pull the adhesive strip free.
- Load the ribbon:
- Insert the new ribbon roll into the lower ribbon supply spindle.
- Rotate the roll until the notches align and lock into the left side.
- Install the Take-Up Core into the take-up spindle and rotate until it locks.
- Attach the ribbon leader to the empty ribbon core on the take-up spindle.
- Rotate the take-up spindle until the ribbon is tight across the printhead.
- Close the printer.

5. Power ON and Calibrate the Printer

- Press and hold the Feed button until the status indicator flashes twice, then release.
- The printer will feed and measure several labels. Remove excess media.
- Print a configuration report:
- Press and hold the Feed button until the status indicator blinks off and on once, then release.
- A configuration label will print.

7. Cleaning the Printhead
- Open the printer.
- Clean the printhead:
- Use a Zebra Preventive Maintenance Cleaning Swab or lint-free cloth/swab moistened with 99.7% isopropyl alcohol.
- Wipe the brown strip on the printhead, starting at the center and moving to the edges.

8. Cleaning the Exterior and Sensors
- Turn off the printer and remove media.
- Clean the exterior and sensors:
- Use isopropyl alcohol and water for cleaning the outside.
- Use compressed air for cleaning the media sensors.
- Clean the roll holders, frame, and adhesive buildup with isopropyl alcohol.


9. Calibrating the Sensors
- Turn on the printer.
- Press and hold the Feed button until the status indicator flashes twice, then release.
- The printer will feed and measure labels.
- Remove excess media.
- Tap the Feed button to verify calibration:
- A calibrated printer feeds one label per button press.
10. Replacing the Platen Roller
- Open the printer.
- Release the bearing retainers and lift the platen assembly.
- Install the new platen roller:
- Lower the platen roller assembly into the bottom frame of the printer.
- Lock the retainers down.

11. Cleaning the Platen Roller
- Open the printer.
- Release the bearing retainers and lift the platen assembly.
- Clean the platen roller:
- Use a Zebra preventive maintenance cleaning swab or lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol.
- Remove any labels or debris stuck to the platen roller.
- Wipe gently to remove adhesive and oils.
- Allow the platen roller to dry and reinstall the platen assembly.
